Celebrating Native American Heritage Month

Join us in honoring the achievements of Native Americans in science, technology, and business.

Tom Love

If you’ve ever been on a road trip in the United States, you may have supported a Native-American business on a pit stop! Tom Love was the founder and owner of Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores, a prominent chain of gas stations and convenience stores with over 600 locations across 42 states. He is the descendant of two Chickasaw families.

Thomas David Petite

You can thank Thomas David Petite for the Wireless Mesh Technology that allows your mobile phone to function. Petite holds over 100 U.S. patents pending and is responsible for the development of the “smart grid” electrical system, which is used widely in the U.S. and Europe to store and conserve energy, and enable information exchange between devices. He is a member of the Fond du Lac Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa tribe.

Nicole Aunapu Mann

Nicole Aunapu Mann was the first Native American woman in space. Once a fighter pilot for the Marines, she has worked for NASA since 2013. Her space mission included space walks of over 14 hours to improve the International Space Station. She is a member of the Wailacki of the Round Valley Indian Tribes in Northern California.
